In order to properly treat, one must:
  1. relieve pain
  2. use an anti-inflammatory

WILLOW TREE:
  • Salix alba
  • Eastern Deciduous Forest (Late Summer/Early Fall)- north temperate areas, usually near small bodies of water
  • Active Chemical Ingredient: salicylic acid
  • Uses: pain reliever, reduce inflammation
  • Preparation: willow bark tea, chew the bark directly

ECHINACEA:

  • Echinacea angustifolia
  • Tall Grass Prairie and Eastern Deciduous Forest (Late Summer/Early Fall)- moist to dry prairies and open wooded areas
  • Active chemical ingredient: humulene

  • Uses: topical wound healing, stimulate the immune system, lowering of inflammation, disinfecting wounds and scrapes
  • Preparations: boil roots in water to form a decoction or tincture, or consume raw petals
