Snake bite(Rattlesnake)

Flora used in treating the malady: SNAKE BITE (RATTLESNAKE)

In order to properly treat a snake bite, one would need to:

  1. cleanse the wound
  2. cover it with a clean dry dressing


BLACK-EYED SUSAN:

  • Rudbeckia hirta
  • Tall Grass Prairie and Eastern Deciduous Forest- fields, prairies, open woods (Late Summer/Early Fall)
  • Active chemical ingredient: sesquiterpene lactones

  • Uses: treats minor cuts, sores, scrapes, swellings
  • Preparation: tea using the root (can be applied topically), poultice, external wash

DOTTED BLAZING STAR:



  • Liatris punctata
  • Tall Grass Prairie (Late Summer/Early Fall)- dry, upland, open sites, especially sandy soil; prairie, plains, hills
  • Active chemical ingredient: inulin

  • Uses: topical remedy
  • Preparation: poultice of mashed roots applied topically

  • Active chemical ingredient: aflatoxins
  • Uses: antiseptic, dressing
  • Preparation: dressing to cover wound and protect from harmful substances
